PRIFIT

21st century’s cities are overcrowded. Cities expand wider and higher and everyday human movement within creates pollution and dissipates time and resources. Natural water circle is jammed for asphalt covers whatever land remains between the buildings. Every living or working cell added to the urban fabric consumes open space – the even more deficient open space that is otherwise the view, the open air, the playground for our children, the place to socialise and the greenery producing breathable air. Yet by 2030 the urban population of the developed countries is predicted to be over 80% and in the developing countries – to reach 60%.

In the dense urban environment, in order to be successful and remain vital, a prefab has to do more than a well-designed prefabricated living unit.

It should be able to solve urban problems, instead of causing them.

An urban prefab must benefit all parties concerned – inhabitants, community, city fabric, environment and the entrepreneur. Failure to conciliate all five usually means malfunction of the initiative as a whole.

Can expectations and benefits for these parties meet? What environmental, urban and social problems can a compact scale living unit of 37.5 sq.m. solve?
